The Five Black Equity Pillars
The Certification was developed to enable employers to move beyond statements and one-time commitments and address Black equity comprehensively. MLT Black Equity at Work Certification focuses on People, Purchasing, and Philanthropy and contains five pillars:
Black Representation at Every Level
Inclusive, Anti-Racist Work Environment
Racially Just Business Practices
Racial Justice Contributions and Investments
What Are Employers Committing To?
Employers are committing to develop and implement rigorous plans to reach MLT Black Equity at Work Certification in one to three years through measurable progress in five key areas:
Increasing Black employee representation at every level of the organization, from the Board of Directors and senior leaders to middle management and professionals to the organization as a whole;
Ensuring pay equity between Black and White employees in similar roles and that lower paid roles receive a living wage and benefits, which has an outsized positive impact for Black employees and their families;
Creating an anti-racist workplace where Black employees feel they belong, are valued, and can advance;
Progressing toward proportionate vendor and supplier spending with Black-owned businesses and proactively utilizing organizational capabilities in support of Black equity; and
Contributing to non-profit organizations working to increase Black equity and investing a small portion of cash deposits in Black-focused financial institutions and/or investment products.
